I have a 5gb iPod and a 6+1 disc CD player in my car, and the changer almost always gets the nod. With the hard-wired changer, the sound quality is better, the controls are well-integrated (steering wheel too), and I don't have to worry about the CD player being stolen if I park the car somewhere less than safe. I like my iPod for having so much music, but the controls are tough to use when driving.
On a side note, I use the iPod through a cassette adaptor in my Saab, but I have a hard-wired FM modulator through which I plug in my iPod in another car. The modulator is a LOT better than the cassette adaptor solution.
