to garage or not to garage, that is the question

<For those of you that see snow during the winter>
My father-in-law is trying to convince me that garaged cars are at higher risk for the effects of salt and corrosion versus cars that are kept outside. His theory is based on the fact that the "warmer" conditions in the garage provide a better environment for oxidation than outside where the car is kept cold.
Here are my arguments against this theory;
1. The condition of the paint is more important when it comes to warding off rust. Therefore, storing the car inside, away from the elements, will keep the car's finish in better shape and will protect against the effects of oxidation regardless.
2. Even if in fact my garaged car is more prone to rust, the benefit of not having to brush snow off of it in the morning FAR outweighs the rust risk.
Thoughts?
BTW, my father-in-law doesn't have the option of storing his car in a garage and I'm speculating that this may have something to do with his theory.
