So important that I've actually let prospective customers walk away from the table during negotiations because they were too high of a CSI risk. If the customer is abrasive and confrontational, yet doesn't allow the dealership to make anything in regards to profit, it's not in our best interest to sell the car.
I actually had a guy last week that would allow us to only make $36.ºº on the car (not $36.ºº plus holdback, $36.ºº, period). I would have considered letting the car go, but he was a huge CSI risk. Ultimately, it would have cost us more to sell the car and take the hit in our end of year CSI percentage than it would have to send him up the street to buy a Toyota. I'm not saying that I make it a practice to cut into holdback, because I don't. I think that anyone that would ask a dealer to sell a car for a loss, should be ashamed of themselves (People don't realize it, but this kind of behavior is what prompts most dealers to perform underhanded tasks.).
Cheers,
Brian.
