....certified shop was replacing my clutch, called me halfway through the job, and suggested they just remove it while they're in there. "Just takes up space, would cost more to reinstall, and makes it easier to work in the car". I've heard many people say the EGR basically does nothing. It was SAAB's attempt to clean up exhaust gases. They did it last minute for the US.
It's very easy to remove.
In fact, many people remove it for performance. A few pounds less weight and a tiny bit more HP.
Even if your state does have emissions, I highly doubt your car won't pass without the EGR system. If an 89 900T will pass, you will. And I'm sure there are a few other pre90 900T's in your state ( :
