9 Grand a year for insurance? At that rate you could invest the money until you're 25 and buy an Aero wagon with all the goodies in cash. That seems a bit high to me. When I was starting out I used (and still do, actually) State Farm. They do offer a discount for good students, and there should also be a discount if you've taken some form of certified driver's training. If your Mom and Dad use the same insurer, perhaps you'd get a discount for the fourth car. If its registered and insured under one of their names you could be listed as an "occasional driver" and the rates should be reduced. That's what I did when I was younger, but if you go this route, it should be noted that your parents will have more control over your driving habits (ie grounding you when you don't come back on time!) Either way, you should be able to do better than 9Gs. Maybe you'll have to start out with something a little less luxurious than a 9-3 to bring your insurance down to reasonable levels. I started with a 78 Buick. You're friends with BMW's and Jags likely don't pay their own way, or they strip in their spare time (how many high paying jobs outside of web developer are there for teens anyways?)
Don't forget, get no collision coverage (unless its financed, then you have to- get a high deductible) and DRIVE SAFELY! its no co-incidence that the rates are so high for younger drivers.
