GM's new slogan:
"Hummer...buy ours if you can't get any"
I once went to a monster truck show - lots of fun, btw. in between the dumb parts where they roll the trucks over long piles of cars, they held small, dirt-track truck races around the periphery; all trucks were way tricked out with, like, 30 degrees neg. camber up front, outrageous suspension travel to handle the numerous jumps.
Cuz the races were amateur, any moron with a helmet and whatever the entry fee was could sign up. Some guy with a Hummer thought he'd show the entire (former) Kingdome audience (tens of thousands of people) how cool he was cuz he drove a Hummer (or, maybe he was trying to show us how big his, um, truck, was.
Anyway, must've been really fun tooling around and around in a circle, getting handily beaten by Ford Rangers & Chevy Blazers. Must've been even more fun when, each time he came down off a jump, the Hummer bottomed out painfully, landing so hard as to seem unsuspended. Then, finally, the coolest part must've been when, after subjecting his truck to this spectacle time & time again, the poor thing quit on him. Dead. It was clear to me that even the most rabid SUV fan there--and the vast majority of them were likely rabid SUV fans--thought that this guy and his cool Hummer represented the ultimate in stupidity.
my 1/2 cent.
