Well, snow chains are great. Very good performance in many different types of snow. They will get you through most anything. Problem is that you cant use them on snow free roadways, and they are a real pain in the a$$ to put on and take off. I figure if you live somewhere where you get a lot of big snowfalls and really need to be out driving in them, a set of chains is a good idea. On the other hand, for an occasional snowstorm, particuarly if you dont really need to be out driving in it, I wouldnt bother. I had a set that came with my old saab, and I used them exactly one time in the 3 years I had it. I think that a set of good studded snow tires mounted on sepparate rims would be a better option, or just leave the car at home if there is not much snow where you live.
There are some snow chain web sites around, snow cables are better for the Saab. Do a google search for more info.
