I just bought a Canon A40 for $299 at Best Buy, back in December I think. Nice unit, 2.o mega pixels, does movies, etc. However.... keep in mind that the price of the camera is only part of it. I bought an additonal memory card (64mb, $49), a cable to connect to the computer, batteries and a charger and a case. All stuff that you really HAVE to have! Came out to close to $500, but I have used all the stuff (esp batteries.... they eat them!) so that is the real cost of a digital camera. One main thing to watch for is the cards in them, as you want something that is easy to buy more of. Mine came with an 8mb card, good for only 8 or so pics, so I got a second one, and for traveling, you may need more. the "hidden costs" of such toys!
