Car you drive, not even a Saab, defines who you are

Hi,
We want to think that Saabs tend to attract a certain type of people
more so than other makes. No Saab is offered with a gas guzzling V8,
but you can get a fuel efficient 250hp I4 engine which has more power and
torque than most V8s. This tradeoff, like many others in decision to
buy a Saab, takes thought.
You have to think back to why you bought your Saab. Maybe the price
was right or maybe you liked something about it.
I know that cars can be like clothes and can be seen by others as
outward manifestation of your taste.
The best advice we can give you (I take back "get other friends" advice
... it's not realistic) is that you need to be secure in yourself.
People who try the hardest to fit in tend to be the most insecure people.
It's o.k. that your friends make fun of your Saab. You know it's a great
car. You made the right decision when you purchased it. So, what others
say should not matter.
Of course, we are social beings and what others say _do_ matter, but
you have to learn to separate the wheat (good advice) from chaff (BS).
Take for example your career choice. Your parents and friends may advise
you to become a lawyer because it can be a lucrative profession. Do you
listen to the advice? Maybe, but only if you enjoy doing the work more
so than other work. You have to balance your needs and desires with
others' advice. In many cases, we have the blind leading the seeing.
No one sees your inner struggles and only you know about your secret
dreams and fears. So, the best person to take control of your life is
you.
Once you have straightened out the inner conflict and demons (which is
no easy feat) and gain confidence in your abilities, integrity and
decision making skills, opinions of lesser mortals who cannot think
for themselves will suddenly not matter so much.
So, you see, your embarrassment about what you drive is a small thing
and a manifestation of a bigger issue at the same time. You need to
be your harshest but fair critic, and you need to ignore attempts by
the blind to lead you. After all, the only person who can see inside
your own mind is you! You live in a free country. Make the decisions
which are best for YOU. Marry who you want to marry. Drive the car you
want to drive. Be a struggling aspiring actor if you prefer that over
being a miserable, rich doctor. Be your own puppet master.
thanks
Jae
