Part of the reason why I still like the new 7 series is that in person, strange looking or not, it has a lot of presence. It's pretty bad ass in it's own weird way, part of this is just due to the massive size of it when viewed from the sides, where the tall doors really give it some presence. In all I like the 7, and the totally unexpected and admittedly rather ugly back just add to the 'screw you' presence of the ph/fat car.

My initial reaction from the 5 pics is that it also benefits from the simplistic though full-of-presence sides/door wells, but the car's front and the rear seem too busy. Infiniti definitely comes to mind, even new Accord in some of the features of the headlight areas, execpt where the new Accord is rather interesting if not really exciting the new 5 front looks down right campy. If they thought the 7 had "Dame Edna" eyebrows I'm not sure what to make of the wrap around 'Dame Edna eyeliner' on the 5. I guess I don't think it is a totally bad design, but not one that you'd want to keep for more than a couple of years, something that until now BMW (and Saab) had always scored the highest marks with me. The new BMW seems to be aiming somewhere between the new E class Mercedes and the G35 Infiniti in its design, rather than setting the trend with something substantial and independent... traits that I think the 7 actually manages.

The most recent pics I've seen of the new 3 from those big glossy Euro car mags show a design that it strikingly conservative though still related. I don't think will lose BMW any customers on this car.

The new Z4 is, in my opinion, great looking, especially in black-- though black is a forgiving color for design, I know. Anyway, I spent a recent weekend driving the new Z4 and it is a fun, solid car.

I know I'm in the significant minority on this but, anyway, my 2 cents.
