Question for Canadians - 401 Posted by Randy Thatcher [Email] (#22) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Randy Thatcher) on Tue, 8 Apr 2003 12:10:10 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
So I'm driving Cleveland to Cambridge (Toyota Plant) every week. I've beeing doing the trip on and off for the past 7 years a few times a year. Lately I've been doing it weekly since December. Anyway, it's usually a pleasant 4.5 - 5 hour trip with some audiobooks to keep me company. Yesterday I had a horrible time and I need to understand how they run the highways.
I was going 403 to 6 North and they had it blocked up. No way to get on the 6, so I spend over an hour looping back to the 407 so I could catch the 401. Well, I get up there and the 401 is closed. HOW ON EARTH CAN THEY CLOSE THE 401!?!?! Radio says it's been closed for the afternoon and it's not opening anytime soon. I found a Kelsey's and had dinner/read the paper.
At this point the 401 is a major roadway & 3 lanes wide. Do they ever let people use emergency lanes, or close only 1 or 2 lanes? Can't they push accidents to the side and then clean them up? It sounds to me like they do a full investigation before opening it up, leaving 60+ km of 3 lane wide parking lot. Idiots. I spent 6 hours "within an hour" of my destination. What kind of policy does the O.P.P. follow?
