There are several styles of Bon Ami, both have very similar labels. One is more like Ajax, the other is much milder and is the one that should be used. I've found it intermittently at OSH and if you do some googling, you'll find articles on the two different types and places to get them.
I've also thought that baking soda is about the mildest abrasive I can think of, so that might work too. There's a pink chalky product called Glass Wax that might be mildly abrasive too.
Griots Garage makes some stuff too. And as far as newspapers, they make a g*dawful mess as they disintegrate and aren't worth the fuss.
