Based on the info below, the 9-2 will be a "Saabized" Impreza, with the sport version having much in common with the WRX.
Hmmm... Saab h/b WRX - Not a bad thing, IMHO. (Kind of like a all-wheel drive Viggen?)
I sincerely hope they use typical Saab ergonomics (esp. headroom & legroom), as most Japanese cars are too small for me to drive as comfortably as a 900 or 9-3.
I think may be able to sell far more than the 7000 units/year mentioned below, if the price was reasonable.
Interesting thought: Since it's based on the WRX, might we see a 9-2 in the WRC!?!

Saab adding 9-2 to lineup, Automakers want to tap small-car market
April 16, 2003, By MICHAEL ELLIS (REUTERS)
...the new Saab 9-2 will be based on Subaru's all-wheel-drive cars and will go into production at a Subaru plant in Japan next spring.
...Saab expects to initially produce about 7,000 of the 9-2 annually, with initial sales in North America only. The base 9-2, with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine, will be based on the Impreza sedan; a high-performance model with a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine will be based on the sporty Subaru WRX, which has won strong reviews.
