down in Santa Fe Springs. At least I'm pretty sure it was sponsored by Saab; first of all, there were more Saabs in the parking lot than at the port, and in each of the three categories presented there was a Saab model.
I also got the sense that Saab was behind the program because of the tone of the questions. But anyway, they showed two concept Saabs that seem to be relatively close to production. One appeared to be from the big wagon school of thought like the new Chrysler Pacifica, the other resembled the Volvo Cross-Country jacked-up-wagon-SUV-on-steroids style.
They both had interiors based on the new 9-3. The big wagon concept was lumped in with the Audi A4, BMW 3 and Volvo wagons, along with the current 9-5 wagon. The pumped-up model was with the Acura MDX, the new and garish Caddy CTS-based thang, the upcoming BMW X3 and the Volvo; no Audi allroad surprisingly.
No actual cars present, just giant-sized posterboards with photos and specs. I liked the pumped-up model, the 9-3 based wagon looked like a tricked-out production car you'd see at a SEMA show.
