Check out the Mazda offerings - CX5 or CX9 depending on the size you need). The car magazine go nuts for them, and they're probably your only hope of sporty handling in the segment. The newest CX7 might be a little old for you at this point, but it's a nice size and has a pretty hot turbo engine. It's hard to find anything too inspiring in the segment really.
