city or highway? Posted by Snowmobile [Email] [Profile/Gallery]

I have actually found the opposite on the highway with our 9-5. Maybe not in the city though. However, the 9-5 is a moderately heavy car, so if I drive around town with a lead foot, I'm probably going to depart pretty quickly from EPA numbers regardless of the car I drive, but with a turbo, it perhaps makes it easier to do so! Actually, a lot of that comes down to gearing also (quick off the line vs slower acceleration better fuel economy). In the end, it takes a certain amount of energy to accelerate a mass M to a speed V in a time T, and the technology that gets you there may not matter too much...
That said, did you find you had worse milage on the highway than epa numbers? We were usually low-mid 30's (mpg). I think EPA was 28. City we can be much lower, like low 20's, depending on how much stop and go etc.
