2003 Chevy Corvette Nomad Posted by MI-Roger [Email] (#882) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MI-Roger) on Sat, 6 Jul 2019 14:52:08 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I saw one today and learned the history from the owner of the company which built these cars for GM.
2003 was the 50th Anniversary of the Chevy Corvette, and the original Chevy Nomad was actually built as a Corvette for the Auto Show circuit. Production models of the Nomad were built on the regular sedan chassis.
In recoginition of the 50th Anniversary of the Corvette, GM hired a specialty firm to construct replicas of the original 1953 Corvette in both Roadster and Nomad forms, using the then current C5 Corvette chassis as the underpinnings. GM's internal bungling bureaucracy prevented GM from receiving the necessary approvals and certifications to offer these as production vehicles, but a total of 200 cars were constructed. Of this number only 14 were the Nomad version.
Below are two shots of a 2003 Chevy Corvette Nomad. The fellow in the shite shirt who is scratching his brow in the rear-quarter shot is the owner of the specialty manufacturer, and it is he who drove the car to today's monthly Ypsi Garage Open House.
