(Not so) Bad news regarding Stelvio and D-I-Y Owners Posted by MI-Roger [Email] (#882) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MI-Roger) on Sun, 15 Sep 2019 15:53:28 In Reply to: Plan on looking at a used Stelvio this week, MI-Roger [Profile/Gallery] , Sun, 15 Sep 2019 10:12:35 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I have been busy researching Stelvio forums this afternoon in preparation for the planned Dealer visit this week. I discovered that owners CANNOT reset the Oil Change Indicator on 2018 and later Stelvios and Giulias.
Even the aftermarket Professional diagnostic tools cannot penetrate/by-pass the Security Gateway (SGW) installed by Alfa-Romero to block access to on-board computers.
EDIT: Unless they by-pass the GSW. The GSW is apparently a Data Diode that blocks certain connections on the OBD2 connector from allowing transmission of data from the Diagnostic Tool to the ECM. It is installed on all 2018+ and some 2017 FCA products.
By-pass devices are already available on the internet without the Data Diode function which replace the factory GSW and allows diagnostic tools to reset Alarm Codes, reset the Oil Life Monitor, and allow the installation of performance tunes.
On the Stelvio this device (about half the size of the ubiquitous Potter-Brumfield Ice Cube Relays) is located immediately above the OBD-2 connector and can be accessed with no removal of interior trim. On the Ram Trucks it is located behind the radio in the dash.
