Well, with the EV incentives going away on 9/30, we've been seeing a lot of lease deals to blow these things out of inventory before then. VW ID.4 (EV) 24 month lease for $129/month got me and my wife to go to the VW dealer to test drive it. It was a short drive because the thing was just way too big for us. We like the smaller SUV types like the Crosstrek not a full-blown SUV. We have almost 9kwH of solar panels on our roof and our local electricity company has lowered what they are paying for excess power delivered back to the grid from 4X to something like .33X from 2002 (when we put on our first panels) to today. It's worth more to charge an EV battery instead of sending it back to the grid.
I looked up the specs on the Subaru Solterra but it was even bigger than the ID.4. Then I saw a $129/month lease deal for the Kia Niro Wind EV. I contacted the dealership to see if they really had these on the lot and not just one for the bait, but they really did have them. I test drove it and I liked it a lot. It's like a Crosstrek knock-off and smaller SUV hatchback. They had white with black trim, ruby red with black trim, and a dark grey that I didn't like. I decided a yes on the white one. They offered me $109/month to take the ruby red and when I said I'd have to look at it again and think about it, they offered me $99/month and I said "deal"!
With 4 cars (still 2 Saabs) in the driveway, the Sonett is going to be sold. It was a very fun car to have and to drive. It still drives very well, but it's time to let it go so I'll be putting it in the classifieds soon.
