There's no doubt that larger vehicles will always test safer in most static accident tests---but, (and I'm not trying to be a PIA here) those tests don't account-for the accident avoidance abilities inherant to a small responsive vehicle. It sounds trite but it's always better to avoid an accident rather than to be in one---realizing that yes, not all accidents can be avoided.
So maybe add the cost of a driving school to the price of a Mini and be on your way? :)
Another consideration is that women aren't generally as large as men and size does matter in the ability to see and maintain control of a vehicle. My 4' 11" girlfriend probably shouldn't drive a Hummer for example.
