I test drove the Audi S4. I was very impressed.

The S4 has a ton of power and torque. It has quattro so it handles
pretty well too. I like it better than the M3 in all respects other than
the sound of the engine. M3's engine sounds like nothing else.
S4 has a pretty large trunk, of course not as big as the trunk in my 9-5.
The leather was nice. The seat controls were not very intuitive (the
seat couldn't be made to go straight down it went down and back for no
good reason). Shifting was crisp, but I never disliked the "rubbery"
shifting of my 9-5. Interior was alright, but again I never disliked my
9-5's interior.
But I'll never _need_ >300HP and >300lb-ft of torque. Actually, that
much power would probably be dangerous in day-to-day driving.
One last thing. The engine looks nice (nice packaging). It was the
most attractively packaged engine I've ever seen. But, I would never
fork over $50,000 for the S4 especially given Audi's poor reliability.
But overall, the S4 seems to have the M3 beat.
Cheers,
Jae
