...the RS6 is out of production now, and the last RS6 was widely regarded in the press (and by at least one owner I know of, I've never driven one) as exceptionally quick (though no faster than an E39 M5 above 200kph) but numb (nowhere near as much fun as an M5) and with the ride quality of a skateboard. The current S4 is a nice piece of hardware but the press reviews I've read of the new RS4 are less positive.

Audi's interiors are nicer than BMWs these days, most of the problems with the E60 5er and E65 7er interiors are aesthetic/design and iDrive, though, and with the new E90 3er there's some indication that they're getting religion again.

The A8 is a turd, IMO, it's huge and has enormous back-seat room but no useful headroom, and the control layout on it (and its steel-structured clone the VW Phaeton) is scattered and unpleasant. The Jag XJ and the old Benz S-class are IMO both the most conventionally laid-out and the most usable of the competitors in that segment, the E65 Bimmer has a good chassis wrapped in a horrid aesthetic package.
