Re the bi-xenons, I have direct experience. My mother owns an '02XC70, no xenons, my other half owns an '04XC70 with bi-xenons. The Volvo xenons are awful -- the spread of light seems almost half of the non-xenon version. The '02 (non xenon) casts a much more forward spread of light; the xenons much much shorter (while a bit brighter, absolutely much shorter). I did not know these xenons could be adjusted -- good to know, but I wonder how? The bi-xenon high beam is not great even out of the factory, so with the adjustment, that issue remains per your post. I find the non-xenons are fine, and quite adequate -- the car sits a bit higher to begin with, so the lighting is elevated and as such, pretty robust.
No other problems with either the '02 (40,000 miles) or '04 (25,000 miles). The A/C seems a bit week on the '04. The upgraded stereo is worth the price. The XC platform is a good one, just not much of a tight handler. The car is a good cruiser ultimately.
Good luck!
