Our current family car is a '98 Legacy GT Wagon. Both my wife and I prefer the ride and handling of European cars compared to the appliance (get me from point A to point B) nature of Japanese cars. Our Subaru has a great combination of ride and handling. The car is really fun to drive and maintains a great ride. Reliability has been great and the only thing it is lacking is power. For 2005 Subaru raised everything up at least a notch - sporting nature, richness of interior and power.
This year we are looking at replacing our Sube and our looking at 2 cars - the Volvo V70 AWD or XC70 and the '05 Sube Legacy GT or Outback XT both with the 250hp turbo. The other thing that Subarus have over most Japanese brands is safety. Again, like the norhern European brands, safety is not an option. The Legacy has a really stiff unibody and side and curtain airbags standard. When we replace our current wagon, we wanted a fun-to-drive wagon with good cargo hold, reasonable fuel economy and all of the safety features available. Drive the Lagacy, you may be surprised, especially if you have driven a Camry or Accord.
