We're a Saab and BMW dealer and I've got to give BMW credit for a couple of innovations that no other car has that significant affect the way the car feels. The first is the split roll bar technology, active roll stabilization, that leans the car into the turn, or I should say prevents the car from leaning in the turn, by twisting the anti-roll bar in the middle. The second is the active steering, the speed sensitive power steering that actually varies the steering ratio according to the speed. This is a stand alone option now on 5 series (and 3 series too) instead of being a standard part of the sport package as in 2005. The third is valvetronic engines. Engines without thottle plates where the valve lift controls the throttle. Valvetronic gives an engine more torque and better top end by eliminating the restriction of the throttle and gives an engine a unique, shall we say lively, feel.
Add all this to an excellent weight distribution, suspension, 6 speed gearbox auto or stick, active headlights, I-drive, and a unique Bangle bodystyle in a sea of lookalikes, well money no object, I'm all over a 550. Even a 525i has 215hp lately.
