Keep your eye on the temp gauge and coolant. The 'phase I' EJ25 motor used up to MY2000 were prone to headgasket failures, with exhaust gases leaking into the coolant and making the coolant overflow tank pressurize and overflow. I bought my 98 Forester with 130k on it with blown headgaskets, fixed it, drove it 35k more (no problems at all) and then the connecting rod shot thru the top of the block. Put in another motor, sold car, and back to a 93 900! Hopefully you will have better luck than I.
Oh yeah, and for the timing belt, make sure you use the correct mark on the crank pulley, (there are two) and if you use the wrong one, all your intake valves will be bent!
