My late mother-in-law had a couple of these and they were absolutely bullet proof. Just normal maintenace. They are so reliable that it's easy to "forget" to do things they need because they just work. Add gas, change the oil, drive. Ya know, there is a lot to be said for that.
Last one I drove was a 2003, which I drove from NH to NJ on a trip to buy my '96 9000. The Yota was not fast or a lot of fun on a 4.5 hour trip, but it was reasonably comfortable and got over 30 mpg.
And I actually considered buying a Matrix at one point, which is really the Corolla wagon.
