Renault no doubt could build and maintain a US market now, they are building top notch cars with great design. Many of the models don't sell particularly well in Europe would probably do well here. I am sure that building a sales and service infrastructure in the US is very complex and expensive. They tried to pull this off by buying a large stake in AMC back in the day which largely failed, although the Chrysler sedans of the 1990's were heavily based upon Renault designs for AMC.
I am not sure that the turnaround which they have pulled with Nissan could be done with Saab, but it is possible. They would almost definately do a better job than GM has been doing.
I would love to see the excellent Renault diesel engines available in Saabs....
