No, you are not crazy. They are one of my favorite BMW's of all time. They have a certain grace and proportion that is missing from most of the current models. From what I have heard they are pretty sturdy cars. The inline 6 is robust and very straight forward. Try to get one of the later cars, 88,89, as they were the best ones. I would probably stay away from the M6, as those were usually driven hard and put away wet. Ebay usually has a few low mileage ones every month. Make sure they have a complete service record.
