I worked at VWoA at the time, bought a used company car, a 1978 Champagne Edition Scirocco for $4000 with 16K miles on it. Ran it for eight years and to almost 150K and then got an '86 GTI.
The Scirocco was a great car. It only had a 1600 cc motor and about 78 hp but it handled well (I added sway bars) but it was quicker than a lot of other cars on the road in those days.
But this new one, at least in the Autoweek images, doesn't do much for me. The greenhouse is too small and the proportions of the car are wrong. The big front end VW/Audi are presently fond of doesn't work with the other lines on this car, at least in photos/drawings.
