I am in the same boat -- after a few kids and wanted a coupe (a Viggen) and it was fun, but the ride was harsh, the clutch got heavy in traffic and while I loved it I also began to appreciate a car that would be easier for an everyday commute. The EVO would be a Viggen + some in harshness. I test drove a WRX Sti a few months ago and after the test drive its more than tempting. That thing really moves and is a ton of fun. Practical it is not, but thats what a little over a quarter life crisis is about I suppose.
If it were me I wouldn't do it, but I would find the best used sports car from europe thats a bit more refined - something like an older M3, S4, or Viggen. It will be good enough, but will keep your back in place for when you hit 45. It will also be much safer....
