I think GM has a winner!
Didn't have time to test drive the new Aura but I sat in it for a while and I like it. The seats seem comfortable (that's a change for a Saturn!). The interior design is clean and logical and the materials used are vastly improved. The exterior design is very classy and contemporary. Nor bland nor to outrageous, it follows today’s high belt line trend. The ride is said to be somewhere between an Accord and a Camry. Even with the standard 17-inch wheels on the base model the suspension buffers road imperfections. Apparently the 4-speed transmission is not a handicap because the 3.5 L 224 hp V6 has oodles of torque and it revs low at highway speeds. My dealer actually prefers it to the new 6 speed mated to the 251 hp 3.6L V6, which he finds a little busy (Imagine a Lexus 8 speed!). All in all, this car is a very good utilization of the Epsilon platform and is priced to kill. It seems to be a perfect blend between American and European characteristics and bodes well for GM’s globalization efforts. (Let’s hope it has retained the Saturn designed serviceability mentioned by Caarma in a previous post) If I may be a little blunt, it doesn't really seem to be a GM car and that might be exactly what GM needs. Looking forward to the coming hybrid version.
