I can absolutely see new tires costing $500ea... Tirerack's most expensive front tire is $290, and rear is $370. That's Tire Rack, and not even the factory specified PZeros. I'm sure the better Pirelli combined with a dealer price would get you very close to $400 per corner. The local Saab dealer charged my friend $210ea for terrible Michelin MXV4s!
Honestly, I didn't see anything in that article that amazed me. It's interesting to see things suspension bushings replaced at 17,000 miles, but I'm sure when you're driving a Ferrari the goal is keep everything like new all the time. It's not like driving a Saab where we're content to let ours actually wear completely out before changing them. :)
The only thing that actually intrigued me was the various leaks the car suffered. 20 years ago, I'd expect something like that, but these days I don't see any ready reason why a Ferrari oil seal would get a pass for low quality because it's a "custom hand-built" part. I'd expect them to be buying OTS stuff from a Honda or something... Who knows, though? Maybe they still are custom Ferrari parts.
I'm sure that Ford owners laugh at us Saab owners for the ridiculous prices we pay for things. Actually, I know they do. I've got a Ford in the driveway, and when I can walk down to the local Autozone and buy a water pump for $18 or a head gasket set for $37, paying more than double that to eeuroparts seems like a complete rip off. But, we do it, because we love the cars despite their high cost of maintenance. :)
