...but I may be the only one. BMW had taken the kidney grille and kinked roofline as far as it could go, and it needed a new, recognizable image throughout its lineup.
The 7's raised rear quarters give the cars an aggressive look from a front quarter aspect. It hints, to me, ever so slightly of cars like the Cobra, the 1st and 2nd gen Mustanges, the GTO, and even the great Bentleys from the early 50s.
There's a lot of attention to surface detail, too, that's not apparent at a glance. Next time you see a Z4, just try to find a bad angle. There isn't one.
I say this as someone who used to own BMW's (a 1600 and 3 Bavaria's) but found himself priced out (and turned off by the 320i and 3 series from the 80s) of the marque.
