Eurocars gave me an Audi A3 at the Frankfurt airport last month. It's a sweet little hatchback. Got a stick. Diesel engine. Inside the car, I was never able to tell it was a diesel. No knock, no smell, gobs of torque (of course).

Only when outside the car did I hear some knock but it wasn't bad. Filled up for Euro 122 (ouch) and I think that was for 42 liters. As I recall converting at the time, it worked out to about $9.26/gal. That was the lesser expensive diesel.

I got about 42 mpg and lots of the time, I was over 100mph in Germany, Switzerland, and France. Audi makes some nice cars.

It's sad to go to Europe and then return. They have so many nice cars we never get here. Mercedes A class and B class. Lots of Alfas, Peugots, etc. Saw a real nice Saab diesel. Maybe someday we'll wake up - perhaps at $5 per gallon which may not be too far away.
