I would think Toyota's large repeat customer base would be happy their conservative and reliable brand is undertaking such a big program to maintain their mechanical perfection rather than marketing perfection. If a large part of their business is repeat customers, I think those people will be willing to wait a little while for the problem to get sorted out.

The lengths Toyota goes to make things right when there is a really big problem is substantial. Think of all the out of warranty Tacomas they bought back at above market prices to protect their used market. They don't make money off used cars, but it's part of the economic ecosystem that keeps their new vehicles well regarded, high priced, and slowly depreciating.
