Just got back from a month in Italy, France and England. while in the UK our hire car was a BMW 120 diesel M class, just thought I would post my opinions.
Six speed manual, five door, accelerated well but had a very short 1st gear. Nice gearbox but hard to hit reverse however it returned 44mpg while on the highway at 70+ mph and I saw even better mileage on occasions, sometimes 60mpg just chugging along and about 30+ around town. Fit and finish was good and it felt like a tight car (it was almost new) Seats had a lot of possible adjustments but it still felt good to get back into my 03 Aero. Some very annoying switchgear but would probably get better with more time spent in the car. Even though it is a moderately sized car I always felt that I had to allow extra space for driving, again my aero feels more intuitive (but I am more used to it). Over all it was a great car with a great engine that was always eager to go, and go fast! The new generation diesels are great, when will the USA catch on!
