... to some extent (and from many other manufacturers, eg Kia Amante is a prime example of inspired by others, unfortunately in that case!)...
I had a friend refer to an older Huyndai hatch (maybe an Elantra?) as "looking like a Saab" (like an OG9-3)... see photo... I don't agree, but I can see some similarities in shape (if not design execution) + perhaps an influence was there (released 2001)... The previous generation Sonata has a lot of 9-5 proportions + cleanness to it aesthetically... the turbos... I think somebody at Huyndai "gets" the Saab thing + is trying to bring it to the masses (quite successfully)...
The new Hyundais (and Kias)? personally I think they look a little garish... I guess I can't say I terribly like any of their designs aesthetically over the years, but I do give them credit for trying to push the boundaries a little + define their own style with these new cars (a big step forward from the Amante and early 2000's Sonatas etc)...
our 2004 9-5 came from a Hyundai dealer... imho, there is still a big difference in solidity (eg compare hdli numbers)... I will not be trading it in on a Hyundai any time soon!
