For many years in the late 80's through the 90's, I suspected that BMW's rapidly rising sales had something to do with that prominent front visage that car rags used to call "butt ugly" and "repetitive." Audi's fast rising sales (in relative terms, we are in an economic depression) after switching over to the new big and loud front grill confirms my suspicion.

Sure, most people would prefer a bland 4dr sedan at a good "value" like Camry or Accord or Civic or Corolla when it comes to putting down their money . . . but there are already the 4-some fulfilling that demand and ramp up production even more if more can be sold. Being "unique," like Saab 900 with its large hatchback format was, is a very good selling point when the production run is expected to be less than 50k units per year.
