I was in Ireland last week, and Hertz gave me a Honda Accord...strangely an automatic...I think it was an SR 2 liter VTEC model, which according to the honda.ie website has 155 hp horsepower and is available with an automatic. The US market only gets the 2.4 liter with 200hp.
It felt a bit gutless with the automatic (coming from any Saab, it's not surprising...my last trip to Ireland I had a 9-3 1.8t, with the 150hp 2 liter and it was a great drive), but Honda has got this car absolutely right for the European market. Steering feel was perfect, suspension firm and crisp, and handling on the side roads was really impressive.
I didn't like the interior styling, particularly the center console...very Japanese looking, and the car had that "Honda" smell, which is an odd lemon-esque smell that you'll recognize from any Honda.
Overall, I was very impressed. It makes the US Accord look awful...they did the right thing bringing the car here as an Acura...though I don't understand why they eliminated the Euro amber turn signal in favor of a red one here....that is a real pet peeve of mine. I bet the TSX with the 6 speed is a fantastic driving car.....
Still, I stick with my turbo....
Cheers,
Paul H.
