4AN vs. 3AN turbo oil inlet size-oil pressure issue? Posted by bryan [Email] (#542) [Profile/Gallery] (more from bryan) on Thu, 20 Oct 2005 07:31:14 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
has anyone experienced the oil leeks through the bearing cartridge using the 4AN sized lines on the turbo oil inlet?
I was going to do my turbo oil feed and return in stainless, and ran into this statement from Function 7 who produce the flanges concerning the inlet size and possible pressure problems causing leaking oil.
any information would be helpful. i noticed the posts form a week or so ago, but didn't discuss this particular issue.
IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT -4AN FITTINGS AND LINES ON T3/T4 TURBOCHARGER INLETS
Please take note that in some cases (inlet oil pressures above 65 psi - like in import engines) the oil seal in the bearing cartridge may blow out and start leaking oil onto the back both the compressor and exhaust turbines. This is due to the higher flow characteristics of the 4AN (1/4" ID) line. The smaller -3AN line (3/16" ID) acts as a restrictor and helps regulate the oil pressure within the turbo bearing cartridge. Purchasing this -4AN flange indicates that you understand this risk and you are willing to deal with any associated problems.
