second car as back-up, or project? Posted by TML [Email] (#2212) [Profile/Gallery] (more from TML) on Sat, 17 Dec 2005 13:33:43 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I have a '97 Aero, partially modded, which I like to take to the track for drag racing and solo II racing. I've already experienced trans failure once, which sidelined the car for two months. I think it's probably prudent for me to have a second car, which leads me to a choice. Do I buy another car mainly as a back-up vehicle and continue to race the Aero and drive it daily as well? Or do I make the Aero a daily driver, and purchase project car to mod the heck out of?
Pros/Cons of Option A:
-still get to drive the fast car daily
-cheaper, because the backup car will be something like a early 90s 900 or 9000, no mods, maybe $1200.
-driving the "race" car daily means higher risk of being stranded somewhere
Pros/cons of Option B:
-the fun of modding a car for pure performance
-more mods possible for this type of car, such as serious weight reduction (removal of seats, etc)
-higher cost... car+mods >$10000 even diy'ing everything
-the current mods to the Aero will "go to waste" (LSD, cryo'd trans)
I realise it all comes down to personal choice, I'm just curious what others think on the subject.
