It's been awhile, but I experimented with air pressures for a couple seasons. Like you, I found the car really wanting to understeer. I eventually found running higher pressures in the rear was quicker. It was probably due to a smaller contact patch which allowed the rear to slip out. If AndyE is still around, he could verify this since we played around with pressures.
Left foot braking is the way to go to balance the car better.
I've seen the hard core front drivers (national champions) using wider fronts than rears, but gets expensive since you can't rotate the tires from front to rear.
I would of loved to have a lsd since acceleration out of a turn was the biggest issue I had with autocrossing the viggen.
