Oh the humanity! I have an '89 SPG with 213K on the odometer, so I've been looking into getting another car and retiring mine from "daily driver" to "project" mode. Of course after driving a new 9-3 yesterday, on the way home, *CRUNCH*, my own SPG gets jealous and commits transmission suicide. (Ok, it wasn't that unexpected, the pinion was whining for the last couple of months.) The state of my car:

- lousy paint
- rust in fenders, one jacking point, in control arm
- original turbo, probably needs a new one
- leaky P/S rack
- lots of new seals, including new headgasket in the last 20K
- new CVs, inner drivers, front brakes
- rebuilt seats, reasonable interior
- new AMM, rotor, wires, etc.

The car is pretty darn tight, and doesn't use any oil, and still pulls well when it doesn't have vacuum leaks. What do I do?? I figure if I am going to replace the transmission, I might as well have the engine rebuilt/rack replaced, control arms etc refurbished with new bushings. Then I figure what is the point of rebuilding the engine to stock -- wouldn't it be minimal extra cost to balance everything etc? Then I figure, why not get the bodywork done as well...

Am I getting ahead of myself? Should I just find a clean SPG to start with as far as performance goes? The thing is I am very attached to my car, since it's the first car I've ever worked on and pride myself on having done lots of the work. I don't mind being financially irresponsible, as long as I know what I'm getting into! What is a ballpark estimate for a perf motor rebuilt for primarily street use? I figure bodywork would be in the 3-4K range. I've gotten some good miles out of my car, but I think she's got more in her! TIA,

Ram
