"Switchable" APC Boxes?

I'm a relative newcomer to SAAB technology, so be nice to me...lol
I read that simply changing some resistors in the APC box can "convert" it from one level of performance to another. If that is in fact the case, then could some sort of switch be used to alter the necessary impedances between "economy" and "performance" modes, or simply alter the harness routing between 2 different APC boxes mounted side by side? I realize that ignition timing (and perhaps some other adjustments) might have to be in some sort of compromise setting to accomodate.
If it matters, I have an '88 SiS Convertible that I am installing an '88 SPG motor into.
Thanks in advance for your time, Sparks
