so when you do the final carb to LH change, you're gonna remove the carburator? I don't know what the original manifold looks like, but how is the LH system gonna connect to that manifold? Will there be some cutting and shaving of material? Or perhaps gut out the carb and use it as the connecting collar? Make a custom connecting collar?
As far as the fiberglass/heat issue - have you looked at using the stock heat shield material found under most C900 turbo hoods? Maybe even double it up in some areas for added heat shielding? You can also find a wrap of sorts, or even a custom design shield like the original 8V uses to protect the spark plug wires from the manifold. You might also look into custom fabing a protective shield to the underside of the hood. If you use a quality heat shielding cloth material (whatever does the job these days ala asbestos) then fix it in place with a thin layer of sheet metal or aluminum sheeting. So you'll have a nice sandwich - the outer metal shell would absorb most of the direct heat, and then the internal cloth matting for final protection.
