It's not "his" site unless he is still associated with the company. The fact that he once registered it has little legal bearing on who is doing business under that name now. I don't know the legal specifics and agreements (obviously), but the domain likely belongs to whoever is doing business as MP. The fact that he once was associated with MP neither gives him the responsibility or right to "shut down" the site. In fact, if someone is still leggally doing business under that name and has legal rights to the domain then "shutting down" the site will likely get him sued.
The name on a domain registration is often a tool to track down those who "own" a particular site but it does not necessarilly show a legal right to control that name or the associated site in any way. If it was me, I would want my name off the site - but blaming him for the actions of those still doing business as MP is likely invalid. He may have no more impact on the domain now than you or me.
