it is very very very important to have a good solid ground for the meter as close as possible to the o2 sensor.
i went the extra step and used braided/shielded cable for hooking mine up in my volvo years ago.
i put the ground (coming from the end of the shield) right above the exhaust manifold under a valve cover nut. (again, this is on a volvo). never ground both sides of a shield.
power came from something convenient, ground was on the engine itself. never had a problem.
i also used a spare connector to solder to, so as not to hack up the car's harness or make o2 sensor replacement more difficult. but i'm just anal about stuff like this.
works great, tho.
