improving plumbing in C900 engine bay Posted by Saabu [Email] (#1133) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Saabu) on Fri, 11 Aug 2006 07:42:29 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
My project car is a C900 86 notchback that i've converted to turbo by swapping the entire dash and wiring harnesses, and put an 86 SPG engine in (stock config). The car does not have AC and i plan to run it only in warm weather ie late spring, summer, early fall, and then garage it. I would like to put a nice FMIC setup on it too.
there's a bunch of things i hate about the standard C900 engine bay plumbing:
the clutch is covered with turbo piping, AMM and BPV plumbing, battery electrical etc,
the lines running under the intake manifold are inaccessible and
in a warm climate who needs TB coolant and thus lines?
the AMM and air filter box take up a lot of room too.
Has anyone done these changes?
put a puke can on top of the water pump, eliminating crank breather vent line running under intake manifold. mount it to the two AC compressor mounting bolts. i suspect a custom unit would have to be fabbed up to fit in the small space there, but it could be done.
eliminate TB coolant lines - this is a bit involved as one of the water pump return hoses has to be changed but i know it would work if you use an 8V hose that doesnt have the tiny y offshoot that connects to the breather vent line going to the turbo inlet. Also the forward outlet to the TB on the hard coolant pipe would have to be plugged and i'm not sure if work can be done to that pipe ie welding in order to plug it.
Why not strip out AMM wiring and move AMM to pass. side of engine bay, do a cold air inlet setup as well as putting BPV inlet on that side? That would clear the clutch cover entirely. A thin pipe would be needed to vent from TB to inlet pipe for BPV to vent upwind of AMM but that would be simple to detach when doing clutch jobs.
Put battery where old airbox used to be, and run a wire to distribution box around back of the engine instead of across the clutch.
Opinions experience or feedback welcome
thanks in advance,
