John does not tell the full story with regard to his set of valve springs as he did not receive a standard shim set (major 0.10" shim as well as the minor .030" shim). At the time John contacted us for a spring set he was in immediate need for a cylinder head overhaul yet we were on a backlog for our 0.10" spring shims. After multiple conversations with him, we agreed to send a spring set with a large # of .030" shims for use for compensation since he was not able to wait the 1-2 weeks that it was would take to provide the 0.10" shims as part of the standard shim kit. Since his machine shop was doing the installation, He also claimed that this shop would be able to provide additional major shims, if required but they apparently did not have shims that would fit onto the SAAB cylinder head.
In the case of any purchased standard Stage One valve spring set from us, the standard shim set will include a major "gold" shim and minor compensation "silver" shim which makes for a simple yet accurate rate increase over the OEM valve springs.
Hoping that this helps clarify things as his set of valve springs should not be compared to our online offering of our Stage One valve springs.
